Take Care of your Own: Enough with Haiti

Before you go and post how dare I write something like this.   Read what I have to say and understand where I  am coming from.

I,  like many, donated what they could to help the efforts in Haiti.  I am a below income mother of 5 children, 4 of whom live with me.  I did the donate by cell phone, clicking the number and hitting send, and they took 5 bucks off my pay as you go phone.  It was the least I could do.  I couldn’t possibly understand that kind of devastation, and really do feel for these people, BUT….

As the weeks have gone on, Americans (and I’m sure many in other countries as well) have started having huge, and I mean HUGE benefits for the people of Haiti.  This is grand. How wonderful that we can get together movie stars and athletes to help out and put on shows and events. Just recently there was a 5k run in NYC to benefit the people of Haiti. Movie stars and Singing stars have contributed millions of dollars, yes millions.  And this year 14 million children in the United States alone will go hungry or know some kind of hunger on a daily basis.  Families that are on some kind of help from social services often run out before the month is over.  Families often use food pantries to help them get by.

I’m not trying to bash anyone for helping countries in need, but I find it hypocritical of all the people whom come together to help these poor impoverished countries with great devastation happening to them, to forget that for some children in the USA the only meal they get everyday is the one provided them at school and some don’t even get that . That some seniors in the USA will eat a can of cat food tonight for dinner because their Social Security isn’t enough to get them by.

I’m not saying don’t have these great benefits to help people, but how come you don’t hear these stars all the time donating 2 million dollars like Angalina and Brad did to Haiti to organizations helping the children of their own country. I think as Americans we feel its our responsibility to feed and take care of the world and literally let our own people suffer.  Ya know that old saying, take care of your own, well its true.  Have a 5k run for the people of the USA who go hungry daily because there just isn’t enough money to pay the bills, and buy food.

A study done by an organization called Feeding America, stated that “76 percent (10 million) of client households served are food insecure, meaning they do not always know where they will find their next meal.  “

This just disgusts me, and every time I hear how some superstar is donating all his/her concert funds to another impoverished, destroyed country my stomach turns, more because of the fact that I am one of those people whom often don’t know where the rest of the food is coming at the end of the week. HELP your own first, the remember there are people, maybe even down the road from you, who are going to bed hungry.

That’s my 2 cents

Oh my god I can’t believe you posted this, :O~ ! Okay, I have no problem with this and I fully heartily agree with you on this. This Haiti thing has gone on to long, as before they were hit with an earthquake the United States sent like 400mil there every year. Why? just cause and the country still wasn’t able to do anything positive with that. So really fuck Haiti. I think Haiti received more money than New Orleans and their are still people dislocated cause of that hurricane. Good job America, good job Congress for leading us down a shit hole.

Yeah seriously, and they were faster in helping them even when we couldn’t land anything there….while New Orleans was just a few steps and bam there…
